started 15 Feb: as a stop light to get on freeway on ramp. i got on it and felt fine. got up to about 65-70 and put in 6th for highway cruising. car felt like crap, 6th gear had no power and shifter vibrating violently. cruising in 5th and other gears gears as well i could feel the hesitation as if a cylinder went down . got home & got car in the air. #7 plug wire was disconnected and #5 wire cracked and burnt/arched through. i completed the plug wire R&R, double and tripled checked to make sure all plug wires where connected properly to the correct spots on the Opti. car still ran like crap.. had alternator tested and it failed, new alternator installed car still started & ran like crap... charged battery over night (Optimum red top 3years old)... car cranks but doesn't turn over... i can hear the fuel pump when the key is turned to 'on'

??????????
1. fuel pump
2. starter
3. battery
4. eff'ing opti

Maybe it's your shorts.

Not the starter or the bettery, it turns over fine. Do you have a fuel pressure gauge you can hook up to the fuel rail (assuming you don't have a gauge in the car for the turbo)?

Did you not see my post in the other thread?
96AZHAWK wrote:Did it not start before you did the plugs and wires? Is there any fuel pressure at the test port at the back of the fuel rails? Check for spark at the coil wire and then at the spark plug wires to make sure it is the opti before going thru that trouble. Hopefully you can get it figured out with minimal money output so you can make it out.

Keep your hopes up man. Atleast you have plenty of time still... it's not like the event is this weekend.

My car is up on jack stands with no tranny and 2 burnt plug wires at the moment, yet I plan on racing it this weekend... talk about crunch time.

i still need to check fuel pressure but leaning towards the opti being burnt out... assuming it's the opti, my plan is to pay off the car(4months to go, maybe3) then anther bill.. after that i'll start playing with the car again. i'll be doing the EFI connections 24x LT1 to LS1 computer/coil pack upgrade! NO MORE EFF'ING OPTI!!! when ever it is i get around to it, ( so i've been told) i can't just put it all together and drive down the street, she'll need to be dyno tuned and i've also heard it's 1000x easier to tune an ls1 computer then and lt1( who would have guessed that one!) after the bills are paid, 24x kit, ported & polished intake manifold, 58mm TB, and a badazz LEP tune at either sea level or Vegas altitude, i'm hoping for high 500's low 600 rear wheel on 91oct...

Seems to be opti... the puffs of smoke with no start out the exhaust or intake = timing failure. Not always but I had a similar problem once

to much frustration going on with the 'X'amount of $$$ thrown into the bottomless wishing well.... i need a few weeks off from working on this money hungry bich...... i'm just overly frustrated right now

taking a long break... i think i have to remove the manifold to get tot he o2 sensor :( .. it's got to be easier then another opti r&r right?

Items R&R'ed: plugs, wires, opti, alternator, battery, water pump, belt, driver side O2 sensor

Need to check:
- O2 sensor r&r (pass.side)
- fuel pressure check
- spark plug wire install verification (pass.side)
- service engine soon code check...
- vacuum leak ( dont know how or where to eff'ing check for that)
- compression check (?)

deadline; 15 May 10 / 12 Jun 10... or possibly bye bye lt1hawk and hello som, nbm, or silver ls1 hawk

I agree, that definitely sucks, BUT at least he KNOWS what's wrong with it now. Nothing more frustrating that trying to diagnose a highly elusive problem.
