so I have been doing a little bit of research on my 1995 Pontiac Trans Am and have discovered that a lot of Firehawks use the RPO code R9Z. from looking at your site and the link below it looks like almost 30 1995 Firehawks are listed with that RPO. this is interesting because there were only 221 Firebirds that year that had that code according to compnine.com. Could this code designate some sort of special order? I know it's not the actual firehawk rpo and not firehawk specific as my 95 tans am has it, but could it signal some sort of special order since it's such a rare rpo but seems pretty common in firehawks?
I found this explanation which almost sounds like it means the car was special ordered by the dealer?
R9Z - POMS EXPEDITE-SOLD ORDERS/TSE
My car also has a rare rpo VH3 which is because it was built to be sold in the state of Hawaii. Only 76 firebirds (24 of them trans am coupes) had that one.

Re: GM RPO code R9Z
I did a Google search on POMS EXPEDITE-SOLD ORDERS/TSE and it came up with hits for Silverados, Cadillacs, 5th gen Camaros and Buicks. Doesn't sound like anything special.

Re: GM RPO code R9Z
yeah that's a thread i responded to at one time looking for info on the R9Z not knowing about all the firehawks that had it. it's looking like that RPO code might actually indicate the car was customer ordered. That would explain why there's a high number of firehawks with it since lots of those were customer ordered as well. It would also explain the low mileage my car had on it when it was first registered as it only had 9 miles which means there likely weren't any test drives. The info i got from that thread was a lot more generic so i thought i'd ask here since lots of Firehawks have that code. I had seen what the code said but i didn't know what it meant. I posed a similar question on LS1tech and got this for a reply earlier today.
It means a dealer ordered the car for a individual and it was "presold" not a stock order vehicle.
