Time to Give It up?

Post by kindaquick » Tue Sep 08, 2015 9:29 pm

I'm trying to make a good decision here. I don't drive the '01 much at all. It is sitting in the garage with around 21,500 on the clock. I just don't enjoy it enough anymore. One thing that I fear is that I will sell the damn thing and then be one of those old guys that says "I should have never sold that car".

Passion in the teens and twenties of my life was cars. Passion in my mid to late 30's has been overwhelmingly amateur barbecue. I don't know what is the right course of action. Anyone else seen this particular plight?

Thoughts or suggestions?

By the time you reach my age you will wish you still had it  . It all depends on wheather you have the funds to let it sit and only drive it on certain days. I can afford to let mine sit on bad days and in the winter. If I sold it, I wouldn't get much for it, so unless I trade it in on a corvette, or caddy, or a Nissan GTR , I'm just going to keep up-grading all old parts with better, and enjoy the hell out of it till I'm gone. It will do you no good to make any decision based on someone else. It's all up to you and how you truly feel. That's why I drive mine when it's nice, so I can enjoy it.

21k miles? If you like looking at it like its art then it is what it is. If you are having difficulty choosing whether or not to keep it then I suggest dusting off the key, dusting off the car, sticking that key in the go go slot and actually drive it for a change. I regret everyday that I sold my firehawk.. Living with a mistake is far easier than living with regret .. None of us can make the decision for you. The FAOA godfather himself even said he wished he had driven his firehawks more

Do you need the money that you would get for it for something else? If not, keep it. If so, sell it.

I find this a really bad time to sell cars like ours, it saddens me to see what some of these cars sell for. IMHO

Thanks for the replies. I don't know what I want. It hasn't been started since mid July. It is now Mid September, and I worry about stupid things like losing a wheel cover or something like that. It is a conundrum for sure.

Do what is was meant to do, DRIVE IT and have a blast doing it. Hell I try not to drive mine and it is physically impossible to not want to drive a firehawk for me.

My suggestion is to do what you want and don't worry about what anyone else thinks.

Markets will change. A funk today, lots of uncertainty, and world events making a upswing a huge challenge.

Its not the right time. A Firehawk collector will value your car to 2/3 of value, but a kid will value it as a sub 5K 1st sports car. The dealers are selling Nissan Sentras at $18 K new. Our cars were a steal for the package we received. Those new Camaros and next gen will lack the uniqueness our cars had.

I collect cars, which is a lot like gambling. You might win, you might not. But you get to enjoy that asset a lot more than a zero interest bank acct.
