BIG RED FLAG - That's a WS6 hood on the car not the correct Firehawk hood. The car is not stock. Why was the hood changed? Front end damage?

The 1993-96 SLP Firehawk hood is not an easy part to locate and it will not be cheap if you decide to return the car to stock. Sorry I was slow to point that out.

One of your original questions about the tires is explained that GM installed 245-16s and SLP upgraded them to 275-17s.

I assume that you're saying that my car has a 1998-2002 hood...it does not. Perhaps you should look closely at the photos again. The 1998-2002 hoods have a raised rib running the length of the hood from between the ram air intakes all the way back to the rear edge. My hood does not have that rib...

Here are examples:

1998-2002 Hood:

1993-1997 Hood:

Here's another 1994 for sale on Hemmings...same exact hood as mine:

Tell me where I'm going wrong...

I'm not saying your car has a 1998-2002 hood at all. Totally different front end.

Your car has a 1996-1997 WS6 style hood. It was also used on the Comp T/A and late 1997 Firehawks.

The 1993 through 1996 SLP Firehawk hood has a rounder leading edge on the raise centre portion. Page 70 of the Firehawk book has a side by side comparison of the two hoods. The WS6 style hood has ribs forward of the raised section. The Hemmings car has the correct hood. It is NOT the same. I'm 110% certain on this (check my signature line)

Here is a link to a 1995 Firehawk (same hood as a 1994). Look closely at the hood scoops.

Here is a red Firehawk so that the hood images are very similar. Load the larger sized image (upper right corner) and zoom in for a close look.

I'm not trying to be a dick. I wanted you to know that before you bought the car. Functionally there is no difference.

X2 with the hood. Car looks clean but that is def the wrong hood. Could be as simple as the owner sold it but I would def ask before I spent money

Looks like you guys are right...those are very subtle differences between the hoods. I didn't mean to imply that you were a dick...it's all good info. Well, at least this one has the correct wheels compared to the Hemmings car, lol :)

MAC'S REPLY >>>Hate to be the one to point that out. Yup, the hoods are very similar, 99.99% of the people would never see it.

Sounds like you got a good deal but I'd still want to know the real reason it's changed. And just so you know "that's the way it came from SLP' is not possible. SLP started making that design in the spring of 1995 well after your car was built.

Thanks Mac...I'll check into it further....BTW, did ALL the 1994's have the 315 HP decal on the hoods?

The 315 HP decal was introduced with the 1995 so NONE of the 1994s had the decals.

In actual fact Pontiac did not endorse SLP putting the horsepower decals on the Firehawk so they were suppose to come in the glove box for the owners to apply.

Well I actually did "write the book".
Always enjoyable when a new owner starts to learn about all the things that make their car a bit unique.

Yes, I don't doubt it one little bit, and sorry if I slighted your knowledge after seeing you sig line  ...and I'll be the first to admit it (as I said in my very first post to the thread). I am a complete noob and have learned and still am learning a tremendous amount...

I checked with the seller and he said it was a dealer demo that was never titled and had 12,000 miles when he got it...until the seller sold it to me at 43,000. I'm sure he didn't check the CarFax when he bought it, so I guess the dealer had an accident, put it for sale, then sold it on to him...without disclosing the accident. When I titled it at the DMV, they confirmed that the seller was the only titled private owner...there were no other title records or registrations except for the seller...

I guess finding the correct hood would be nearly impossible and incredibly expensive, so I guess I'll just have to live with it...caveat emptor...
