Firehawk's current value

Post by FDXHAWK » Tue Dec 06, 2005 10:56 am

It sure seems like these limited edition cars are just not holding there value!! I do realize that any material thing is only worth what someone is willing to pay but it seems as if many many original owners take a serious beating when its time to sell can anyone with an opinion jump in and tell me why this might be . I have owned a 93 and a 94 I wasnt the original owner on either but both were the tru meaning of immaculate showroom new the 93 had 9400 miles when sold and the 94 had 10,400 miles when sold on both I only got a little over 12k I went back to old muscle and realized I miss my hawks the un highway freindly 390 gear and the 4 plus buck per gallon high octane fuel was killing me , there is currently a 95 with under 8k miles it has every available option from pontiac also every available option from SLP I realize again its only worth what some is willing to pay but im sure there are plent of you out there that have a feel for its value the car is supposed to be collector quality

Holy run-on sentence Batman!! :?

There is a 32K mile '95 in the For Sale section for $17,500 but I think that is a steep considering there is a 16K '02 listed for $16,900.

You need to know the market and what people are willing to pay. With my 10th I know what I can sell it for.

What hurts is no one wants Fbodies unless there is something rare about them and even then its hard.

...and let's not foget the "modification" factor, as many want STOCK cars.

Who really knows what daily driving habits the owner has put on the vehicle, so there may also be some skepticism when it comes to purchasing a used limitied F-body.

I suppose they drop down in value from new, level off at one point, and then start a slow rise up. Some low milage WS6 Trans Ams are selling for over $20,000...some over $25,000.

I bought a 95 Hawk this past summer with 58K miles on it. It has some mods (subframes, headers, exhaust, swaybars, lowering springs, etc.) and was garage kept. It is a very clean car. I paid $9500 for it. I feel that the price was about right, but I have noticed that the LT1 cars aren't bringing alot of money right now. Did I overpay? I don't really know, but I am very happy with the car. Just thought I would add my 2 cents to the firehawk value post.

Three months ago I bought a 1995 Firehawk convertible for $24,500. Did I pay too much for it? Some say yes, I say no. It cost $34,800 when new in 1995...and its still like new. It was stored in a original owners house, and it had 2525 miles when I bought it...now its got 2900 miles. It is shwroom new condition. I wanted a new 1995 Firehawk when they were new, but at that time I cold not afford it. Now I have my new 1995 Firehawk convertible for $10,000 less than what it cost in 1995. You got a great deal!

It seems like a car has to be 20 years old before it is worth something...even in our cases, where the car is no longer produced. In my case I would be 70 years old by then, since I bought my car around the time of my 50th birthday.

I bought my Hawk for the exclusivity, not for its future value. Cars in general make very poor investments. Unless you are willing to hold on to it for 20-25 years and not drive it, chances are it will never appreciate a large amount. Of course with the right buyer anything is possible.

It doesn't matter if we think you over paid. As long as you think you got a deal and enjoy the car.

I feel sorry for folks that paid high, let the car sit and don't enjoy them. Example- 95 Hawk 10 years old 3k on the clock and its worth maybe 8k max. That's 10 years someone did not enjoy driving the car.

With the HP wars going on the Hawks may not be worth anything. 300-345HP Wooo DCX -425, Chevy- 505 6 bangers putting out 330HP now and 4 bangers running 12's in the 1/4 mile. Our day has come and gone mostly kids with Fbodies now and not many of them want them.

I think you guys are right about the twenty years before collector cars start to appreciate. A good example of that is the money that Buick Grand Nationals are now bringing. I had a few back in the mid to late 90's and I paid between 5-6K each for both of them. Now try to find one that's under 10K.

I enjoy my Firehawk tremendously and a big reason I bought it was to drive it as a fun toy on weekends and whenever I need to put a smile on my face. I also bought it because I wanted one since they were new, and I can now afford it. I don't buy cars because i think they will be worth something in the future, I buy what I like. But it is nice to know that my Hawk won't depreciate nearly as much as a 95 Cavalier.

It do think in time F-bodies will become true collector cars and values will start to appreciate, it just takes time for the herd to thin out (totaled cars, high mileage, and generally abused and discarded). Hopefully the Firehawk will be one of the more sought after of the f-bodies since it was a special edition to start with. Until then, I'm just going to have fun with mine.

I also bought my Hawk to enjoy the heck out of.I bought it in June 05 with 325 miles, and now it has 6000. I drive it every day it is not raining or snowing.I have seen these cars sell high and low. Some have mods, to each their own and some do not. I hope to see the Transams come back one day.If they do not well I can at least say I have enjoyed mine. :D I paid for my car what the guy was asking for. I hope to have this car till I can not drive anymore.

Firebirds, and Firehawks are retired now...of course they will be collectibles...hell, they already are! I will bet, that in 10 years from now, they will be worth double what they are now. I don't really care about how much they will be worth though...I bought mine for one simple reason...I LIKE EM!

OH, also I forgot to say one more thing. Next summer I plan on buying a Trans Am WS6 or another Firehawk coupe. Since GM doesn't make these GREAT cars anymore, I will be buying a low milage, mint one...close to new. Its the next best thing....now days what do I have to choose from? Vette or GTO...NAHHHH, I'm buying another F-body!

A local has (2) of them, and is always seeking bargains!

I am still not convinced that NOW is the time to purchase for future posterity, but that is why I am not a Stock Broker either
