Any Zaino experts or Zaino dealers here?

Post by Kadonny » Wed Jul 25, 2007 8:53 am

I'm looking to get my Hawk Zaino'd up. I know it was done a few years ago and it's time I do it again.

Is it just easiest/cost effective to buy directly from the website for FOA members?

Also, what are your guys suggestions on what line up I should use. Is the clay bar a must if I know it was Zaino'd before?

Here is what I was going to do:

Z-7 car wash
Z-18 clay bar (questionable)
Z-7 car wash again if I clay bar
Z-2 polish
Z-2 polish

Then maintain with Z-6

Thoughts? Thanks.

Yes its just as cost effective to get it from the website, even though I am a distributor.

I fixed your steps for you...

i still use the old Zaino method... which would have you put a coat of Z1 on there before the Z2 since you said your car hasn't been done in a while. i dunno if that's still done with all the new stuff out though. and i also throw some Z5 in there. since your car is pewter you don't need it, but it sure doesn't hurt. :D

If you are going to clay bar the car then use Dawn soap to take all of the waxes and other stuff off of the car. Then re-wash the car with Zaino and start the Zaino process.

I would not use this process EVERY time you clay (washing with dawn), but I agree it is a good thing to do this time since you haven't waxed in quite a while.

If I remember correctly, you use Z6 after each polish, not just at the end.

If he already has Zaino on the car then he doesn't need to use Dawn. Will it hurt anything...no, but its really not necessary. Any other carnuba based waxes and debris will be removed by the clay bar anyway.

Yes, it was Zaino'd before by the old owner. I havn't had the car out from the garage/cover but for a few hours (I know, don't shoot me) over the past few years, but now that I am done working on my 68 I have some time to drive her this fall.

That's why I want to get her re-Zaino'd before she gets some outdoor exposure.

I'll pass on the dawn dish soap but maintain the original order from Matt. Thanks all, I'll snap some pics after I am done.

Update. Got er done this past weekend, and boy do my arms and knees hurt.

Here is what I ended up doing:

Z-7 wash
Z-18 claybar
Z-7 wash
Z-2 polish
Z-6 detail
Z-2 polish
Z-6 detail

And boy does the car look and feel just awesome. Zaino makes a kick ass product, thanks Zaino! The whole process took me probably 6 hours over 2 days but it was worth it. The car shines like I have never seen it shine.

I'll get some pics this weekend and get them posted up. Thanks all for the advice.

I'll never forget the first time I Zaino'd my '93. I had (Lucky) 13 coats on her before I took her to the Firehawk Rally in 1994. It paid off too as I got a trophy from Ames and the FAOA!!! 8)

Yep, and each coat gave it a deeper shine and it was like looking into a glass pool. On a black car it was awesome. Worth every minute of it.
