Options ? I thought you were still seeking a job to pay for insurance......anyway........JMHO, but unless I had a stash of cash, I personally would not buy a Hawk that old unless it had low mileage. My Hawk has been trouble free for the past 6 months, but right after purchase I put a good $7,000 into her and she's a '97 and had 52,000 miles. It also depends on the care the previous owner took with her. Mine was garaged, but needed some serious work. I think they are as much a hobby as a method of transportation. And I'm a daily driver. I would love to have another Hawk, but wouldn't buy anything older than a 2000. So many of the F bodies have been ridden hard and not received the care they need. And more importantly, find the right garage. For me that has been the GMC dealer here. The manager is a former Hawk owner. Previous garage was a "super shop", but I KNOW now that I had work done it didn't need. It was thrilling to watch her on the dyno, though.

I wish you good luck on your purchase.

This might be a bit off topic, but I have always found that cars that are driven regularly (even with high miles) are more reliable than cars that have sat for years. And this is coming from someone who has 300k+ miles on my hawk and who daily drives a car 24 years old with even more miles. Regular maintence and NOT just repairs are key. By that I mean replacing important parts before they break, like water pumps, etc.

that is true, but the car is going to be a gift to me once i get into a college.
and the car i have now I bought. my 93 318 was maintained decently and has no major issues at all. i LIKE the 93-97 body style more than the others.

You might want to have your parents call me for some timely advice on gifting you with a Firehawk......................J/K. I appreciate your liking the 93-97 bodies, but if you're getting a job to pay for insurance, who is going to pay for repairs when she eventually has problems, as ANY car would have at that age, and have ya priced rear ends lately ??? Crap, I hate being older and wiser.................... :D

Hey now, my parents let me get my Firehawk a month before I turned 17. They didn't gift it to me but they said I could get one if I payed for it. I get into WAY more trouble with my 96 dodge dakota then the Firehawk! In fact I've never even been pulled over in the firehawk. Lucky I guess

I bought an extremely low mileage, 95 Hawk with slight modifications. Garaged and babied. Curse of the LT1 hit me about a year after I got it and I spent $2,000 trying to get the optispark problem cured- final word; go with GM performance parts optispark as 3 other aftermarket "peformance" optis and a "spark acclerator" were not worth it. Wish original owner would've stuck with the original opti (unless it went out before I got it!).

I now spend about $1000 every two months on repairs and maintenance (does not include insurance or payments): brakes, tires, circuits, window motors, headlamp motors, etc. Just part of owning an older, performance car! And yes, I still love it!

speaking of costly parts, i have priced rear ends for firehawks, and early this spring am going to an S60 by strange. im so tired of the 10 bolts coming apart when you put any kind of power down. got my hawk running mid 12's but the 10 bolt just wont tolerate it, and im not a for 9" fan, and its the same money to get the S60 as it would be to buy the moser 12 bolt, and teh dana is stronger by far, therefore the dana it shall be!!!! cant wait!!

I was looking at the Dana S60 a while ago and it seemed like I was reading quite a bit of negative stuff about them. Can't remember what it was but thought you might like to know.

A 9" is damn near bullet proof. They are a little heavier and I thin kthey rob you of a little more power to the ground but they'll pretty much handle whatever you throw at it.

I know of people that have broken dana's, but not 9" rears. I have also seen well built 10 bolts hold alot of power. On street tires, my 10 bolt has never had a problem, and my car makes lots of power.
