Will a LS2 motor bolt up to a 93 Firehawk ?

Post by matt » Fri Dec 24, 2010 12:42 pm

Just curious with all the LS talk going on would a LS motor (LS2 or LS3 ) bolt into a LT1 originally equiped car. My engine is fine at this point, but thinking down the road for a LS power plant would be nice.

Droping an LS motor into an LT1 f-body should be piece of cake. I'm sure it's been done a lot.

If you are familiar with doing all the work, great. If you have to pay a shop to do it, it will cost a pretty penny. So yes it can be done, but there are many differences:

k-member
pcm/harness
trans bellhousing bolt pattern
fuel pressure at fuel rails
radiator

just a few, more minor details though.

You might also need a fuel pump, Flywheel and clutch for a LS1, and a whole new exhaust system for the Headers and y-pipe..

LS2 will bolt right up to your trans, bellhousing boltpatter is the same save for 1 bolt.

You may need a flexplate spacer with the 6 longer bolts.

New engine to old trans is no problem, or vice-versa.

Thanks all, If i keep the Hawk I will probably go that route with a LS2 . I have a 128K on her now and the engine and tranny are strong running.

I wouldnt do an 6.0(LS2) unless its a aluminum block..Save some weight if your going to spend the money. But if you could do anything from a 5.3 out of a truck up to a 7.0..They are all the LSX based engines. Check out LS1tech and find out what would suit your wants/goals..

My buddy is doing an LS swap in his 94 T/A right now. I got him talked into a cam and stall while doing it. Go from a 14 second turd to a 11 second beast in no time!
