What is a better/equal replacement for the BLACKWING Air Lid

Post by MotleyCrue » Thu Feb 24, 2011 1:55 pm

Mine is cracked and I need to replace it. Is the one on SLP comparable? Any better ones out there?

There is nothing better in the fit/finish/quality of the SLP/Donaldson Blackwing.
Depending on where the crack is, I'd fix it.
If you're going to throw it away, make sure you throw it into my trash bin, so I can dig it out, fix it, & resell it.
Seriously, ...
Got any photos of the crack/s?

The aftermarket one shown in your link is 50/50. A lot of people bitch about them not fitting well, but 9 times out of 10, it's the installer that is the problem.

Not sure how bad the crack is, at the auto body, didn't get a good look. Hit a deer.

By the way GM is out of front bumpers for Trans Ams 98-02. They only have Firebird bumpers left. If I can't find a junkyard one then I will have to go after market. Unless someone knows where to find them?

#1) Try Ebay

Third) http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/
4) http://www.fbodymotorsports.com/about_us

There are some other LSx-Fbody salvage yards too, but I can't find the links right now.
Try Google.

Ok thanks I will forward this to my Body Shop guy. I don't want to buy it since the insurance is paying for it.

Also, it looks like GM doesn't send the Front License plate cover with the bumper - as none came with the Firebird bumper they sent (and was shipped back). Does anyone know where to get them?

Used & new on Ebay, or used LS1Tech are the best sources.
Expensive from your GM dealer.

GM finally sent a Trans Am Front bumper. When I get the price I will post it.
The Body guy got an SLP lid and Front Bumper Plate cover on ebay.

Putting on new Lower Control Arms (Tubular with Poly Bushings) and a Lingenfelter 3.5" driveshaft.
A new chambered exhaust with Chrome tips.
Firehawk anniversary racing stripes (Black) and changing the Firehawk decals to Black (Arctic White Car).
SLP Firehawk Front Fascia Emblem and bumper cut for hood.
Getting firewall caulked and resealed for the windshield.
SLP Strut Tower Brace.
Going to get a blackwing air filter.

Let me know if anyone wants the originals for sale. (Lower control arms and drive shaft)
I also have a car bra brand new that I am selling.

FYI, If the insurance would have totaled it, the retail was around $18,500. They would of never went for that but anyways...
