Help, please, multiple problems.
Hello, everybody, I am new user and new owner of a 2000 Firehawk(to be honest, I hope it's legit, how could I check authenticity?). I bought it as-is, knowing it had multiple problems.
First off, I know it needs a full tune-up. Spark plugs, coils, lines, brake job. I checked prices and it's about a grand to do all that myself using good parts.
Secondly, my fuel gauge does not work it just stays pegged on full so I'm imagining I need to replace the fuel level sensor.
Third, the speedometer is about 20 miles off the speed I'm actually going.
Fourth, when I turn the headlights off they make a never-ending clicking sound and the manual raise/lower knob keeps pivoting.
Further, it drops into first gear kinda rough.
And, the left turn signal doesn't work.
If anyone has any recommendations, advice or has any help to offer I would greatly appreciate it.

Re: Help, please, multiple problems.
1) To see if it's authentic, check for the WU6 code on the RPO listing on the driver's door tag.
B) Brakes are easy. Anyone with the tools available & can change their own oil, should be able to change the brake pads & rotors.
Third) All but one of the spark plugs are easy. Access to the back one on the passenger side is doen with either coil pack removal, or from the underside. Coils usually don't go bad, but if it's a high milage car, maybe it's time.
4th) Fuel pump & level sensor are a bitch to get to. So search here & LS1Tech for info on the "trap door" process of getting to it without dropping the tank.
Five) Speedometer could be off because of a gear change.
Find out what rear gear ratio it has.
There are speedo gear ratio adaptors available, but again, would need to search.
F) Headlight problem would/could be a gear issue. Google search "Brent Franker Brass Gears", or simply take them apart & rotate the gears 180degrees for a temporary fix. You'll probably need new ones sooner or later. Might be easier to simply buy new motors.
7th) Left signal could simply be a bulb. Check'em.
If it's the front one, there's an access door under the front end, in front of the wheelwell.
If it's the back one, simply move the trunk carpet & remove the nuts holding the taillight on.
And last, ..., Welcome a'board', ..., Helpful bunch of people around here!
Where ya located?
Formula based, or Trans Am based car?
Manual or Automatic Transmission?

Thank you for replying. I checked and I don't see the tag on the door, that concerns me.
It looks like there's been body work done and it might have been repainted.

Do a Google Search on the VIN?suneater wrote:Thank you for replying. I checked and I don't see the tag on the door, that concerns me.

Or put the VIN into the RPO code finder at compnine.com

Thank you soo much, both of you.
It showed it was, in truth, a legitimate Firehawk.
The code also suggests that it was a Trans Am base.
If I was to copy and paste the codes here would anyone be able to let me know if it has, to say, all of the performance options available?

Re: Help, please, multiple problems.
The GM RPO codes from Compnine.com are NOT going to list the SLP second sticker options.
Typically they are listed on the passenger door tag, ..., If you have one left.
If you call SLP with your VIN, they can tell you the car number & possibly the added options.
If they can't, they can sell you a replacement SLP second sticker, which will list the options.

Re: Help, please, multiple problems.
So, so far mine is #696, a black-Trans Am based Firehawk with 4-speed automatic.
