Headers

Post by 94hawk170 » Wed Jun 15, 2011 5:20 pm

Ok so my mechanic called and said my car (which is a 1994 firehawk with flowmaster exhaust) can't get headers on it due to the oxygen sensors is this true or is he just being lazy?

Your mechanic is wrong. You can get them with/without AIR fittings, but they would have the O2 bugs on them. I have TPiS long tubes on mine without the AIR stuff and heated O2's.

You might need to get 02 sensor extention harnesses. They're like $20-$30. And get the harnesses, don't try and cut and crimp or splice yourself as the O2's are VERY voltage sensative and unless you are a master at crimping and soldering, you'll start having driveability issues cause the O2's are giving bad readings due to less than perfect wiring.

Well I going to take back headers because they said I wouldn't be able to pass inspection and it's going to $1600 to do everything I don't get any of the guys I've taken my car too

That's why it's always useful to put your location in your username info.
Where are you located?
Maybe some other people in your area may have some better input.

Or, ..., you need to find a better garage who isn't gonna screw ya over for more money & things you don't need, ...

Technically I can't pass inspection with my long tubes and hi-flow cats... but I have for the last 4 years.

Cars with headers can be legal several ways.

- Shorty / mid-length headers
- No visual inspection
- No inspection
- Knowing / paying someone who does the inspection

Shorty / mid-length headers don't require relocation of the cats which is the main issue with long tubes.

I live in Irving Texas and have long tube Kooks headers on my Firehawk, I have never had a problem with the inspection, The majority of Firehawks and Camaros in the area alol have headers, there should not be any reason that you would have a problem.

This is the first year that my renewal on my tag is requiring an emissions test. I pulled an emissions code on my Hawk quite a while ago, but it was a repair that I could live without. I am now terrified of the emissions test..............I plan to get the code pulled again and see what it specifically needs. Geese........could I just go a month without a repair ?????? I have headers............long tube BBK, I believe......but then I don't know what to believe about this car anymore.
