Emergency water pump question
My Hawk does, ineed have an LS1 engine. I need to replace the water pump. I am told by one mechanic that it is an electric water pump and by another that the water pump is shaft driven. Cost to replace is the same........around $700. Which is it ? Electric or shaft driven ?
Thanks, again..........

Stay away from the mechanic that claims it is an electric pump.

Re: Emergency water pump question
Unless it has been replaced with a aftermarket, both LT1 and LS1 are not electric.
LT1 is shaft driven and I believe LS1 is belt driven.
Of course if you have a LS1 in a 1997 instead of LT1, it might have a aftermarket one.

LOL............just talked with Tim at Corvette Connection and he says what ya'll say...........definitely an after market electric. No belt. I am taking pics later in the day and will upload them to Tim and you guys. I'll try to squeeze myself into the frame This is getting very tiresome......but I learning SOOOOO much. I just KNEW you guys would know what to do. I tell every mechanic that after they diagnose I go to Firehawk.com to get the real deal. You guys rock ! Blackhawk............seriously...........if you didn't have the turbos, I'd say we should part out one of our Hawks and get ONE decent Firehawk. I am in a hurry. Been without the Hawk a week now, so am going with the belt-driven water pump, as it doesn't matter what's in there now. It will also save me a couple hundred, as well. BUT......will upload the pix when I get a chance. She's really pretty......

OK............I am being told by another mechanic that I have to replace an electric water pump with another electric water pump.............that's all NAPA offers. OK..........I mentioned a gear-driven water pump and he said that's a possibility..........If I sent a pic of myself right now, I would resemble Linda Blair in the Exhorist.......

Re: Emergency water pump question
Continuing with "As the engine turns"..........sent pix to Don at SLP and the engine is definitely an lt-1, so I think I'm going to get the car towed and get the belt-driven water pump. At this point, I'd like to take a sledgehammer to the car AND the mechanic who sold me the "ls-1" engine. I am so done with this car. Insert Blackhawk's "throwing in the towel" visual.....
Thanks for all your help,

Re: Emergency water pump question
Not to put more fuel on the fire, but with a LT1 it would be a gear drive water pump. Trust me, had to replace mine:VBACHAWK wrote:Continuing with "As the engine turns"..........sent pix to Don at SLP and the engine is definitely an lt-1, so I think I'm going to get the car towed and get the belt-driven water pump. Re: Emergency water pump question
Thanks Brian. I wondered about that when Don at SLP mentioned about it hooking up to a gear. The tow truck arrives at 8am tomorrow so I have time to call the shop.........maybe it'll fall off the tow truck.........I should be so lucky. Kidding......it's not HER fault.
