Photo of Pam's engine.
LTx-based engine.
So now you LTx-based owners can give her some valid help in what she needs!

It is hard to see the water pump in this picture. Considering I see a gap between the pump and fans, my guess would be it is a stock pump. I would swap it like for like. They are not terribly expensive nor difficult to replace.

Yea, the photos weren't that good to see anything in detail.
But it did prove that it was not the LSx-based swap that she had been told all this time.

Just hopin' you current LTx-based owners could tell her what she needs.
Most likely just a standard LTx-based water pump from the 93-97 years to fit her 97-year vehicle.

Water pumps range in price from $70 to $200 depending on brand, remanufactured, and warranty. Also keep in mind shops almost always add on to the price of parts to make a bit of money off both parts and labor. I believe it books out in the 3 to 4 hour range as far as labor. If you were having it done by a shop, I would expect that $600 would cover it. But that is just my opinion.

Parts list:Water pump
Water pump gaskets
o-rings for water pump shaft
coolant/water

other items to consider or that the shop might want to add:
possibly any coolant hoses that are in need of replacement
serpentine belt
hose clamps to replace compression clamps on hoses
optispark (big item, but not much more labor once you are at this point

I finally had the pump replaced on Tuesday, stock pump, had already replaced gasket and hose. Total did come to $600, all parts and labor. Now trying to break the habit of continually looking at the temp gauge. Oddly enough, I had the work done at the local Brakes Plus. It was a good experience everything considered. My mechanic is a Firebird owner. Everyone here and at SLP was a great help. I learned more than I want to know :) Most people work to support their families..........I work to support my car. If I could replace the engine, I would.............for an LS-9, LOL. I agree........LT-1's suck. If the crackhead who replaced the engine lied about the type of motor, my guess is that he lied about the mileage, as well.

Many, many thanks to all of you, especially Kelly ! I am sure you must scratch your heads as I post and wonder what in the heck I am doing with this car..............then again, some of you understand ! :) When she runs well, occassionally, it is such a rush.............
