blue smoke :(

Post by coopermike40 » Thu Sep 29, 2011 3:51 pm

Just bought a 1996 Firehawk #69. It has 163k miles on it, so I anticipated some problems. I am hearing different things, so here it is. Running at idle or running the car normal, as in not jumping on it, no smoke out of exhaust. When I jump on it, blue smoke out of exhaust. I am hearing it may be rings and I am hearing valve guide seals. It sat for 2 years, so I am going to flush every fluid out of the car and replace it, but I dont think that will solve it. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks guys!

Blue smoke = burning oil. Could be rings, valve guides or valve seals.

Thanks for the help! If I do valves I might as well rebuild bottom too right?

If it's the valves there is no need to touch the bottom end unless you want to. What are your goals (just a good running car or do you want to make it faster?) and your budget?

Don't bother with the LT4 kit, check out Advanced Induction if you truly want to do heads and cam. You can do bolt ons and gears and make some big differences in the way the car drives.

I had the LT4 conversion done to my car before I did my stroker motor and ended up with 331rwhp. I think it was a waste of money.
