Thermostat ?

Post by VBACHAWK » Sun Apr 15, 2012 11:32 pm

Hawk is running hot when idling. Goes up to 210, but rather quickly. When she's running 40-50 mph and over, temp is low and stays there. Drove home from Denver on I-25 (the clutch killer) and every time I had to stop in traffic, she began to run hot quickly. Not leaking water (new hotly debated water pump not a year old), enough coolant. I am thinking thermostat.......any other guesses ? So, on the up side, I have gone almost a year without ANY repairs and this at 103,000 miles. On the whole, not too bad. Thanks !

Did you bleed the system when you replaced the water pump?

You know, I believe they did, but would have to check. Thanks for the input. If they failed to do that, what then would I do ? I have a new mechanic now, who really knows what he's doing. The water pump was done by Brakes Plus............

Just have them bleed the cooling system.

2 other things I would check. Are your fans coming on when you reach 210 degrees? Also, i had a plastic bag get sucked up into the radiator on my hawk and had the same symptoms.
