Vapor leak and steering

Post by VBACHAWK » Mon Oct 15, 2012 12:48 pm

I knew that I had a small vapor leak. Now when I turn the car off, there is a strong smell of gas. Steering: fluid levels ok, but when making turn, something rattles on underside of car, as I turn each way. Sounds like belt may need to be replaced, as well.

Also..........when changing gears and stomping on accelerator, there is a significant boost to power. Is this a function of the headers, or what ? The boost comes about 2 seconds into acceleration............I am enjoying it, but curious as to it's cause :)

Any clues ? Taking it to mechanic this week, but thought you guys might be able to give me some upfront clues. TIA !

for the gas smell, check the gas cap/tight/bad?, fuel rail injs, evap system and fuel lines for leaks..

Are the tires rubbing the plastic inner fender liner when you turn?

Headers sometimes are close to body parts and rattle an bang.

Another common cause of the "vapor leak" is the lines going to the charcoal canister inside the left rear quarter panel/wheel well area. The soft rubber hoses connecting the plastic lines to the canister tend to rot out and fall apart causing a leak.
