2001 Firehawk Chrome Wheels are being destroyed

Post by Black Robe » Mon Feb 11, 2013 2:01 am

Can an experienced owner of a set of these clearcoated aluminum wheels tell me how to best remove the clearcoat and repair the chrome-like finish?
After 12 years of trying to keep them perfect, I'm seeing bubbles and curled edges on every wheel. Of course they all have the usual pitting on the inner hub surfaces too. Please don't tell me to just put some other wheels on this car, I want to keep it bone stock. TIA

Are they chrome or polished aluminum? Both have different restoration steps..

Chrome needs to be stripped and rechromed $$$$$ to do properly.

Polished aluminum needs the clear stripped, repolished, cleaned with alodine and then recleared.
Always looking for SLP/Firehawk parts for 3rdgen birds.
PM me.

Thanks, they are aluminum, according to SLP.
