Orig tire longevity

Post by Mattie » Thu Mar 07, 2013 7:57 am

Still have original tires on the car. Wondering if they should be replaced for safety reasons? 13-14 years old.

7,000 miles, always indoors. No checking/cracking/leaks etc. Wonder how long to keep them in use?

I see that Firestone still has similar "Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500's" still available.

any ideas? Or just drive em.

Tires should be replaced every 5-6 years regardless of mileage.

I'm still running the original tires on mine as well. Here's an article...http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/ ... techid=138

Yes - from someone that has experienced two blowouts from older tires. They came with my 77, and I wasn't sure how old they were.

When the first one blew, I didn't think much about it. Then a couple of months later a second one blew (causing more damage) and I realized what was going on.

Agreed.
I try to replace mine at least every 4-5 years. I also never wear tires out, the car is not driven that much... but for safety reasons yes.
