bilstein suspension

Post by Nighthawk » Sun Dec 08, 2013 11:05 am

Does anyone know why the convertible Firehawks did not get the bilstein suspension system?

You know the LS convertible cars did get the Bilstein option, right?

I don't have an LS (Camaro?). As far as I can tell no Firehawk verts got the bilstein upgrade (at least from '95-'97). Just curious to see if anyone knew why, as I'm thinking of adding it to mine. But, since Black Robe pointed out the LS got the upgrade I'm guessing there is no reason for me not to do it.

I'm just taking a guess, and my guess is because the convertibles weighed then the coups and t-tops and due to the limited vehicles bilstein didn't make a strut for them. again, just a guess! If I remember right that's why the 'verts didn't get 17 in wheels either.(?) .. again, just a guess. I'm probably wrong though

well, it sounds logical. that's kinda what I was wondering about. I know the verts weigh more and tend to twist. I'm gonna research it a little more when I get enough time. I've found some useful info on FBN and LS1. But I haven't had time to digest it yet.

Sorry if you misread my short-hand. When I said 'LS' I meant '99-'02 Firehawks per my sig. All LS1-powered ('99-'02) 'hawks could order the Bilstein option, including the 'verts, which mine has.

Just a side note: While nobody at SLP dared to admit it, the 'verts with Bilstein are the lowest riding F-bodies from the factory of all time. A few years ago we had owners of various 'hawks across the continent carefully measuring their cars' ride heights and it was confirmed. GM-written rules were apparently broken when these left SLP, as they were not in accordance with the GM specs or something. Whatever caused it, I'm very happy about it!

Thanks for the clarification Black Robe. Looks like there may be some new shocks and springs in my future.
