FIREHAWK HOOD?

Post by LTX_OUTLAW » Wed Apr 02, 2014 4:53 pm

Hey guys in the past few months I have been very fortunate to purchase 2 firehawk hoods for my cars but I was wondering what is the weight savings vs the stock metal firebird formula hood or the overall weight of the firehawk hood?

I am not sure if your going to be able to find the weight of a firehawk hood. I don't think there is a huge difference in weight or any weight savings.

A stock SS hood is said to weight around 50lbs, which is right about the same weight of a stock camaro steel hood. If your looking for weight reduction, an aftermarket fiberglass hood is the best way to go.
A stock SS hood is produced by SLP and there shouldn't be much difference in weight in comparison to a firehawk hood.

You found 2 in the last few months? I've been looking for almost 8 months and not found one. Mine has stress cracks all the way around it. I had it worked on but they weren't able to get them all out. But, it looks good for now and way better than it did.

Just curious, are they Firehawk hoods or WS6 hoods?

I would certainly be interested in a Firehawk hood. My car has been in the shop for the past six motnhs. The shop has a ton of very expensive cars in it yet someone went out of their way and stole my hood. Please call me at (901) 605-8390 if anyone has a spare hood. The shop is getting me a replacement hood with fucntioning air box but it's not OEM. Thanks, Scott

That's probably going to mess up the fit with your front bumper. Unless they change to the stock OEM style front bumper too.
Did they get you a Suncoast Creations Raptor hood?
Doesn't matter, there's only one hood style that requires the front bumper cut to match the front lines of the hood. Firehawk.

FYI, I believe this thread involves the early 4th gen LT1/4-based cars.
I believe swizzle has a late 4th gen LS1-based car, which is the reason for my comments above.
Don't confuse the two!

GlassTek makes a pretty good copy...it's model H3043. It's a pretty good replacement for the 93-95 cars...Looks pretty much the same on the top side. Like pretty much all after market hoods, it has thick edges that have to be trimmed etc. I bought one a while back and I can tell you it is much lighter than the original Firehawk hood.....
