Best headers with SLP Loudmouth?

Post by mikecronis » Mon Jun 27, 2016 5:54 am

What's a good set of headers that will bolt on nicely without fuss to a 2002 Firehawk with the SLP Loudmouth system? When called, SLP doesn't seem to know.

Why not SLP's headers? The new design is not supposed to hang so low & scrape.
I've got FLP's, but not sure if they are still available.

Seems odd that is you called SLP, they can't make recommendations for headers, ..., especially their own.

Yeah, I'd like those! Do those fit with Loudmouth easily? SLP when I called them didn't know.

I may be wrong, but I believe most of the header/y pipe sets out there are designed to exit at the stock location for the cat back. Likewise, the aftermarket cat back exhaust kits start at the stock location.

From everything I have seen, the best headers out there other than the SLP headers are Kooks, and American Racing. Don't believe you can go wrong with any of these. Now if you want to keep the price down, there are many others(Pacesetter) out there that will be much cheaper, but I believe you get what you pay for.

Let us know what you decide.

The type of catrback you have should be irrelevant when it comes to picking headers.

American Racing ALL the WAY!!

Couldn't be happier with the long tube 1 7/8" stainless steel with 3" merge collector paired with the 3" high flow y-pipe with high flow cats

Sounds great and mean with it being tuned fully

I'm sure the GMMG catback I had laying around boxed up for a few years added to it - love that catback system!

Kooks, they are well worth the price for their fit and finish, especially if you decide to keep CATS

Coating is nice, but really the quality of the stainless is more important. Make sure you don't get T-409, you want T-304. But coating doesn't discolor at all, where most bare headers will. Also keeps the temp under the hood a lot lower with coating.

Texas Speed stainless. 1 3/4" & 1 7/8". 2 cars. The 1 3/4" fits better, tighter to the chassis. 1 7/8" has clearance issues. Both cars are lowered on Stranos.
