Want more Power....

Post by tinmidl » Fri Dec 09, 2016 12:57 am

I have a 94 Firehawk #490 of 500
All upgrades were completed by previous owner.
These are the specifics about the car that I'm aware of.
- LT1 V8
- 6 Speed Manual
- 78K miles
- Vortech V1 supercharger
- SLP Firehawk upgrades
- Upgraded to high flow External Fuel Pump
- Front Tire size: 275/40/17
- Rear Tire Size: 285/40/17
- Slicks : 325/50/15
- Stock 10 bolt/3.42 Auburn rearend
- Line Lock
- MSD ignition
- Custom radiator
- Holley Throttle body
- Short Shifter
Now for the wish list.....
Budget is not an issue neither is time.
Not a daily driver. I would like to destroy some knuckle heads at the track, but also have to pass smog.

- I'd like to get a new Cam (I want it to sound like Satan is behind the wheel.. don't know where to start....

You should think about a new rear before you add any power. That 10-bolt isn't going to last long with more power, slicks and a 6 speed. Once that's done do some suspension work to get the weight transferred to the rear better and then call a company like Elliotts Portworks or Advanced Induction and talk to them about a cam for your setup.

I would agree with Scott above. Your biggest problem is passing smog. My current setup passes smog, but probably not as aggressive as you are really looking for. I can put down 500 wrhp with 8psi on a stock bottom end with factory ported heads, and an LT4 hotcam.

Will be pulling this combo out soon for an upgrade, but I don't have to pass smog.

What are your goals?

Your next issue will be finding someone who can do the tuning. Might consider a 24x conversion to make this much easier to accomplish.

These two items are not gonna play great together. The overlap on a cam is generally what gives you the choppy idle. Too much overlap will not pass smog as overlap is when both the intake an exhaust valves are open and therefore some unburnt fuel goes straight to the exhaust. Your tuner might be able to play around with the idle speed and timing to try and create a choppier idle if you so desire.

Cam overlap + blower = not good

Call a cam company and tell them about your combo and they'll give you some advice.
