Why not just have a nice little 383 or 396 built using your current block, heads, etc.?

What Chab Said.

For 8k you can get a pretty healthy motor built, granted you probably can't use anything exotic but it will be pretty nice.

Ls7's are not on the market yet, and wont be for a while. It will take some time for them to come as a crate motor and when it does come out its going to cost equal or more than what a 2002 Hawk is worth.

You can get a crate LS2 for around $5900.

You can get an LS6 long block for around $5500

I still say go with a 383 or 396.. you can get a cast rotating assembly if you don't plan on going with nitrous or a blower and not spend that much.

I spent quite a bit more than I planned to because I went all forged in case I decide to add juice and I also got caught up in the "While I'm at it" syndrome. :?

Don't ask my wife about that syndrome! 8O I nearly ended up without a car after I went a ways over my budget with that one!
