Seat bracket

Post by Hawk40 » Sat Mar 14, 2009 12:07 pm

being 6'4", i decided to remove my seat and see what it looked like for relocating the seat a few inches back. My first thouht was to just drill new holes in the floor, but the back bolts are on a raised section of the floor pan, so that plan is out. Now i'm thinking about cuttin a piece of 1/4 steel to bolt up to my seat and the original brackets. has anyono moved their seat?

There are a couple of threads on doing this on ls1tech. The difference would be when this was discussed it was mainly about the newer hawks, like 99-02. Not sure what the difference is between as far as seats but there is a thread where a guy picked up I want to say 2-3 inches by redoing the bottom. It was pretty interesting, what he had done cause I'm 6'5" and I also wanted more leg room. Then I decided to just sit differently which helped alot, plus I just gave up on the idea. There is even atleast 1 thread over here on firehawk.org discussing the taking out of the stop tabs or something, which gives a 1/4 of an inch or so.

Larry Bell from BC did this to his 'Hawk and told me how to do it as well. I think he said you gain a couple inches. I never got around to doing it though but it is a worthwhile change.

hey guys, after you mentioned it, i found this post...viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6487&p=34428&hilit=move+seat#p34428

I'm going to try to bend the tabs and see how i feel after that. Hopefully i wont have to mess with the seat brackets...thanks again

i saw on that post and one other where chuck strong was trying to host a hawk event here in dallas in 07..did that ever happen?...either way i'd really be interested in hosting an even here in the metroplex...wonder what kind of interest there would be....dallas is pretty neutral ground to travel

A club member who was an NBA player had a camaro he did because he couldn't fit in a vette.
Reversed the runnners under the seat - the rails.

I was, but a start of a divorce got in the way. I want to try something for 2010, but I won't know anything until I see how things work out this summer.

Yup, it was worth it and very simple. Just use a manual hammer or a pneumatic (rivet gun) type and a bucking bar of about 1 pound. It only takes a few seconds (after you get the seats out). It gave me about 2 inches as Bob says.
