Cam for stock headers
I have been looking around and I want to go with the CompCam503: (224/230 .535/.544 112lsa) w/ 1.6RR's but I havent been able to find one with those specs. And also should I go wit a hypertech computer to be able to adjust the cam.

Re: Cam for stock headers
I wouldn't do a cam swap with stock exhaust manifolds. Also, a Hypertech programmer will not make any changes specific to a cam as far as I can remember.
Where did you get the cam specs?

ls1 tech is where i got the cam specs. I thought I needed some sort of computer mod to handle the new specs on a cam

Tuning will help you get the most out of any mod but a HPP is not going to do it for you. You can send your PCM to someone who does mail order tunes or have it dyno tuned.Firehawk197 wrote:ls1 tech is where i got the cam specs. HPP is a "one size fits all" type of tune except for things like gear ratio changes and tire height changes.

A cam swap is quite intrusive of a mod on an LTx and there are many other bolt ons that should be done first. This would allow you to be able to take full advantage of the cam swap when you do decide to pull the trigger on that route.
-change rear end gear ration to 3.73 (auto trans)/4.10 (manual trans)
-headers/y-pipe
-1.6 rockers vs stock 1.5 rockers
-52mm or 58mm throttle body/port intake to match throttle body bores
-electric water pump
-underdrive pulley(s)
-more to the list, just all I could think of off hand.
-full dyno tune after bolt on mods
I would recommend finding out what you want to get out of the car, do some more research on what it would take to get there, and review your options and justifiable costs at that point.
My $480 pesos.

Re: Cam for stock headers
I've been told that by very reliable sources that the stock TB will support at least 400hp so there is no reason to go to a 52MM let alone a 58MM until you get into some fairly involved mods.96AZHAWK wrote:A cam swap is quite intrusive of a mod on an LTx and there are many other bolt ons that should be done first. I couldn't agree more about mapping out a plan before jumping into internal mods. It could save you time, money and frustration down the road.

Good point but my list was based on the theory that every little mod leads to another and another and... well you know how it goes.Scott Chab wrote:I've been told that by very reliable sources that the stock TB will support at least 400hp so there is no reason to go to a 52MM let alone a 58MM until you get into some fairly involved mods.

Re: Cam for stock headers
The little mods don't do much (even when added together) and end up costing alot. I would plan out your car's future and work on that. Save up for a good cam setup, head work and tuning. But don't forget the rest of the car.

Yup, I know how it goes. The old "while I'm at it" syndrome and the mod bug go hand in hand.96AZHAWK wrote:Good point but my list was based on the theory that every little mod leads to another and another and... well you know how it goes.Scott Chab wrote:I've been told that by very reliable sources that the stock TB will support at least 400hp so there is no reason to go to a 52MM let alone a 58MM until you get into some fairly involved mods.
I told myself I was going to keep my car stock... right.

Re: Cam for stock headers
If I do go ahead and d othis cam swap I will just go ahead and change out lifters, RR's, valve springs, and then start with the bottom end of my motor due to the fact of the operating preformance rpm specs of almost any new cam is above 6k.
And I thought our cars cam stock with a 52mm throttle body?
