1994 Firehawk pilot car

Post by rockmaned » Sun Apr 13, 2014 11:22 pm

First time on this site. I have a 1994 red firehawk. What is different is it number 5 of 10 pilot cars. It came with the SLP updates in 1995 in Detroit. Does this add any value to it? Thanks Ed

It'll only add value if someone is willing to pay extra because it is a pilot car.

There are people that like to collect Pilot Cars. I think they are interesting especially if they are a unique combination never offered for sale. But it's all individual.

I would love to see photos! The Craigslist ad is gone

This car was not offered for sale. I bought it new and drove it to Detroit to SLP to have it converted to a Firehawk. The next year in 1995 I called and talked to the owner of SLP to see if there was any extra horsepower to be added to the Firehawk. He offered to give all the 1995 upgrades and make it into a pilot car at no charge if I could drive it back to Detroit. That took about 1/2 a second to decide. Went back to Detroit and was #5 of 10 Pilot car. This is a Formula not a Trans Am base car. It is red. I not of the technical person to post pictures. Thanks for your replies. Ed

What's a pilot car?

I assume these are test mules that SLP put together for marketing & testing?

What years?

What I was told is the Pilot cars were put together for media and testing purposes. It was a 94 and they added the same upgrades as the new 95's would have. They used this for testing the new suspension and for marketing for advertising the new looks. They added about 5 things to the car for my Firehawk. I was also told that the pilot cars were not sold directly to the customer but some were sold aftermarket. I don't know how to see how many of these cars are still around. Ed

I recently purchased the car that was the topic of this discussion. It is 1995 Pilot Car No. 5 but a 1994 Formula as described, below. It has been through a few owners since the original posting of 2003. I would like to get in touch with the original owner "Ed". Is Ed out there still or does anyone know how I can get in touch with him? Thank you!

Interesting, Firehawk Trans Am #5 or 5 recently surfaced and registered in the database. It's a black trans Am. Needs some TLC but it's complete and it's correct.

Oops! Taking my Firehawk out yesterday, I noticed it is 1995 Pilot Car number 6 not 5. It was little hard to see. The SVE verification site still has it as a 1994, which is what it is titled as. The original 1994 number is 434.
