High flow cats for an '02 TA Hawk
I need 2 high flow cats for my 2002 trans am firehawk. Does anybody know of a source? My car was born with them & 1 is now bad. I'm looking to replace both.

Well, don't crash the board all replying at once. The local GM stealership ordered 2 high flow cats, & told me they wouldn't fit. They said my exhaust system was aftermarket. No, the exhaust system is stock: SLP long tube headers. high flow cats, Loudmouth muffler, stainless & polished tail pipes, polished dual duals. The car sounds awesome. I would like to keep it that way, but I refuse to drive around with the check engine light on. Next step is to remove the cats, (since I can't find any) & delete the code. Anybody care to comment on how the stock hawk exhaust sounds sans cats?

all I could find. Easy to say they are suitable "factory replacements. The Firehawk was build by SLP and they used SLP catalytic converters." That's how I got a shop to weld in a high flow cat onto my '95 hawk many years ago although in reality it came with a GM stocker. Can try Ebay too

SLP would not have put headers & hi-flow cats on the car at the factory buiild time.
They would have had to be added as an aftermarket item.
Even the Loudmouth would be an aftermarket item.
The only thing that SLP would have done during the initial build & sell thru GM, would be the rear section of the exhaust over the axle, muffler, & the tips. (Often referred to as the dual/dual on the standard late 4th gen cars.)

I know SLP didn't put high flow cats on firehawks... But an exhaust shop won't know that. Well, the shop that I had weld mine on some years back eat my story that they were. Had to pay cash too .. I found some on eBay can also check out ls1tech.com ,

Yeah your exhaust isn't stock, so stock cats wouldn't fit...

Talking with a guy who worked for a local Pontiac new car dealer from '96-'02. He was a salesman. He said the Firehawks came in from the factory with full exhaust. Documentation was inside each car as to the modifications made. It was his job, as a salesman, to get the paperwork out of each car, & add it to the content of the car. According to him, most salesmen were lazy, so it never got done. SLP long tube headers, high flow cats, Loudmouth muffler, stainless tail pipes & polished dual/duals were all on the car when it rolled off the transporter new. He has seen my hawk & said, yes, this is how the exhaust looked when the car was new. Of course, I have done some polishing, so it looks better than new.

I am sorry, but that is simply not true.02 red hawk wrote:Talking with a guy who worked for a local Pontiac new car dealer from '96-'02. He was a salesman. Why do you say that? He was there & has documentation to prove it. Unfortunately, he didn't keep any of the paperwork regarding the upgrades/upcharges, as he never thought it would be worth anything. I will try to get him on this board to give his experience on the matter.

not an entirely true statement, Per the 1996 brochure ( http://firehawk.org/article/1223.html ) SLP put high flow manifolds on... and the '92's were fully customizable. either way, Just buy an SLP high flow car and tell the exhaust shop it's a factory replacement and hopefully they will buy story. if not, find someone who you know that can weld. or or or! if it's for emissions testing, get a regular cat, have flanges welded on so you can easily remove/ install it and have a dummy pipe made to go in the cats location for 100% free flowing!

How do you post pics here? All I get is a description of what the pics is. Example:/Volumes/Untitled/DCIM/100EOS5D/WD7A0003.JPG This is a rear 3/4 view of my hawk. I took some pics of the exhaust that I would like to post.

That's what I'm trying to do. I've opened an account, now I'm not sure how to upload pics. There is nothing on the page telling me how. Got it figured out, the upload page wasn't loaded yet. No wonder I couldn't find it. Anyway, pic of faulty cat on p. 2
