Help. Water pump leaking onto distributor assembly and goes bad.

Post by Hawk93 » Fri Feb 23, 2024 6:26 pm

I have a 93 Firehawk that I bought used around 2015. Since then, I've had the water pump and distributor assembly replaced 3 times each, because the water pump leaks onto the distributor assembly causing it to go bad. I've heard the water pumps are poorly manufactured for the Firehawks. Is there a way to protect the distributor assembly from getting leaked on if this happens, again? The car just dies when this happens no matter where I'm driving... you can see the danger in this, right? Any good advice would be greatly appreciated!

That whole assembly is a terrible design. I', not super up on mt LTX interchangeability, but I think the 96 and newer Vented Opti's were better, just not 100% if it's a direct bolt on. There are some better aftermarket versions of the water pump and opti as well.

Thx. I know it sucks. Still wondering if there's a mod that can be done like a metal plate over it or something.
