newbie searched, but could not find an answer!!

Post by PIMPALA-SS » Fri Apr 22, 2005 9:41 am

ok, here is my situation:

I sell cars for a living, mostly highline stuff.

we just bought a 2002 firehawk, and i am assuming it is a Trans Am not a formula.

a customer asked me the difference from a TA to a formula, and other than the side skirts, different nose, and rear spoiler, i didnt know.

can anyone tell me for sure?

i am here to better my F-body knowledge, and better inform any customer who may possibly purchase this car from me.

any help would be appreciated.

this one is an A4, t-top, black interior car. there are no scratches, or flaws anywhere on, or inside the car that i can find. if i didnt already have 3 other projects going, i would buy this thing myself!!

btw, here are a couple of pics of the car:

There are many more knowledgeable people on here than me, but I will give it a shotÂ…

This car appears to be a bone stock Base Firehawk package. Included in this package over a base Trans Am are: freer flowing Airbox, fully functional Ram Air hood with Heat Extractors, freer flowing stainless steel muffler and outlet pipes with dual/dual tips, silver painted alloy 17x9 wheels with Firestone Firehawk SZ50EP tires.

You are correct in assuming the front & rear bumper, spoiler, and side skirts are the major differences between TAs and Formulas. The interior changes include leather and standard t-tops.

All Firehawks have a build number, and yours appears to have been built later in the year, since it has the SLP Blackwing Airbox. There were a total of 1500ish(?) built in 2002.

Optional items to check for on the car are an aluminum diff cover, indicating the optional Auburn diff, blue and yellow shocks indicating the optional Bilstien suspension, solid yellow(I think) shocks indicating the optional fully adjustable Koni suspension.

ThatÂ’s all I can remember, someone else will jump in im sureÂ…
Good lookin hawk, and make sure to tell whoever buys it to come here and find out all about ‘Hawkdom…

Check the passenger door jamb sticker for any additional SLP content over the base Firehawk package. No sticker, its a base Firehawk.

TAs got TTops as standard equipement from GM. Also, there was an adjustable lumbar drivers seat available on TAs only. RPO AQ9 if I recall.

Hawkfanatic did a good job answering your question.

Contact SLP for the build number for your Hawk, if you'd like to know it.

If the car is missing its paperwork (GM window sticker, or SLP window sticker, those can be purchased, either from GM or SLP, for a relatively small fee.)

The door sticker (inside the passenger side door) will let you know what SLP options were originally installed on the car.

The base Firehawk alteration package is: hood, wheels, decals, console plaque, exhaust, nose emblem.

Options were: chrome wheels, floormats, car cover, Auburn diff, Bilstein or Koni shocks, portfolio, birth certificate, deck mat, SLP wing, Blackhawk air lid.

The sideskirts are the same as on all Trans Ams. The nose is too, for the most part, except for a little trimming SLP does so their hood lines up. The spoiler too, is standard Trans Am, unless the special SLP spoiler is ordered (this is a very rare option, your car doesnt have it).

Nice car!

1507 Firehawks were made in 2002. Trans Ams have 8-way power drivers and a power lumbar for the passenger, Formulas have a 6-way drivers power and manual passenger. T/A's come with leather, and t-tops as a standard option as oposed to a Formula having leather as an option.

Is it me or does this number keep increasing. First it as 1501 and the most I have seen before was 1505. Now 1507?

I don't think its just you :)

I thought the final tally was 1501, or 1502 by Dave?

Indeed, and that is why we need SLP to help provide us accurate info IMO.
Next time I see Dave or Ed, I WILL ask the question, "Will this info ever be available?"

Can't argue w/published FACTS!

....and that is exactly why I didn't have a custom emblem fabricated saying, "Car 526 of XXXX"

Welcome Aboard (even if it is only for a short time :-) )

Enjoy:

Taken from a 2002 Pontiac brocure:

Exterior differences:

T/A: High level Spoiler.
Formy: Deck lid hugging spiloer
T/A & Formula convertable had the same decklid/spoiler.

T/A: Front bumper has fog lights on either side of the license plate, and "air scoops" under the daytime running lights/blinkers at the edge of the bumper.
Formy: Front bumper has fog lights at the edge of the bumper, right next to the daytime running lights/blinker.

T/A: T-Tops standard
Formy: Hardtop standard, T-top optional.
Comment: I know this was optional for the formula at least up till the 00 model year, not sure about 01, but it was standard for both vehicles in 02.

T/A: Side sills and lower hanging rear bumper with "cutouts" for exhaust.
Formy: none of the above.

Interior:

T/A: Leather seats
Formy: Cloth seats, leather optional

T/A: Remote keyless and alarm
Formy: Optional
comment: I think this was optional for the formula at least up till the 00 model year, not sure about 01, but it was standard for both vehicles in 02.

T/A: 6 way power drivers seat
Formy: Optional
comment: I know this was optional for the formula at least up till the 00 model year, not sure about 01, but it was standard for both vehicles in 02.

That's about it. There were only 3 additional options on either vehicle:
1.) TCS - Traction Control
2.) 12 Disk changer
3.) Transmission

Dave is more recently saying 1505. Jeff is still saying 1501. Dave supposedly verified the numbers. I know Jeff said 1501 was dead on at the end of production.

I guess we have to go with 1505 since Jeff's paycheck says ASC now and not SLP.

..... glad I have a 2000.

I was told recently that the final numbers end at 1507. By the looks of it though, who really knows?

1505 is the final number - we verified and went over the numbers many times up until a year ago. No more and no less.
